Michaja Prendergast, the Head of LEEP’s talented OT team, is bringing back two summer camps. Both groups run June 22nd- August 14th.
Improv Camp – Tuesdays and Thursdays – 4pm-5:30pm – Ages 8+
A great Chicago comedian, a quick-witted speech therapist, and whimsical occupational therapist have joined forces once again to lead this awesome improv camp! In this group we get to exercise our creativity, practice thinking independently, and work together in a team to learn simple improvisational games.
Improv games have many therapeutic goals such as:
- Initiating social interactions
- Learning to following someone else’s lead
- Negotiating with peers
- Reading non-verbals
We are able to take these clinical goals and address them through humor! This camp has been a hit for four years and this year we are adding an additional day so our kids can really dig deep and double their laughter.
Many kids have unique sensory profiles that can interfere with their initial experience participating in group sports programs. This sports camp an opportunity to be introduced to and become familiar with sports and group recreation activities in a safe and nurturing environment while also providing opportunities for motor planning, visual-motor integration, endurance building and strengthening. We’ll play seven different sports throughout the summer, including football, soccer, martial arts, and gymnastics.
In addition to our therapeutic goals, this is a fun way to build confidence and use peer regulation and social problem solving around team sports. The primary location of this camp will be Skinner Park with opportunities for field trips when the sport of the week is appropriate!
